Mission

Responsible Olentangy Citizens was founded in 2008 by a group of concerned Olentangy School District (OSD) Taxpayers who watched their property taxes increase year after year while the Olentangy School Board (OSB) and District spent taxpayer dollars at an increasing rate without regard to the actual needs of the community.  The 2008 OSD operating levy and bond issues were passed in March 2008 by a narrow margin and mainly on threats; only to be revealed on August 26, 2008, that the levy was not needed until 2010.  There was actually a $2 million dollar surplus from FY 2007-2008.  Instead of delaying the initiation of the property tax increase in a severely declining economy, the OSB and the district continued (and still does) to spend tax dollars irresponsibly.  This is evidenced by higher administrator and teacher raises & benefits (not commensurate with other state of Ohio employees), elaborate and ornate school buildings, and topped off by the $300K+ /per year new superintendent contract to name a few examples.  The OSD has failed to listen to the taxpayer’s continued demand of transparency and has denied the OSD citizens a voice in how their hard-earned income is spent.  ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.  It is time that the taxpayers of the OSD be heard and represented by responsible, honest leadership.  The citizens of the OSD cannot afford ‘business as usual’ and CHANGE IS A MUST.  It is imperative for our children’s academic future that the OSD be transparent, fiscally responsible and accountable in the educational process.
